While the protagonist's disdain for his father's weakness is misplaced, for his father was a wiser man who could see through his mother's manipulations unlike his naive self.
A mouth-breathing, buck-toothed girl and a boy who hysterically screams like a girl save the planet, or the universe or something something. A shape-shifting robot appears and something something...yawn.
